ChatGPT vs Human Tutors: The Future of Learning

By Derek Neighbors on June 11, 2023

We’re at a crossroads, friends. It’s like standing at the helm of our tech-enhanced trophy truck, eyes on the rugged trails of Arizona, ready to take on an exhilarating ride through the ever-evolving landscape of education. So, who’s in the passenger seat acting as your navigator? A human tutor or an AI like ChatGPT?

Determined Student

Recently, a significant shift in our educational navigation has come to light. Intelligent.com unveiled a surprising statistic: 85% of students who have had both human and AI tutoring experiences actually preferred the AI method. Intriguing, isn’t it?

Ponder on this: your trophy truck is equipped with a top-tier navigation system (ChatGPT). It swiftly adapts to your pace, offers real-time feedback, and tirelessly repeats instructions until you’ve fully grasped the concept. Doesn’t it feel like having a dedicated pit crew, available round-the-clock, ensuring your vehicle (knowledge) is race-ready (for exams)?

Now, let’s talk about the other side of the coin. Human tutors. They’re those seasoned drivers who have been through the trails umpteen times, they can anticipate pitfalls, and are ready to guide you. They foster a sense of camaraderie and motivation that an AI system might not fully replicate. Their role is far from becoming obsolete. However, it’s crucial to note that 96% of parents surveyed indicated an improvement in their children’s grades after using ChatGPT. How do we reconcile these two very different perspectives?

Think of ChatGPT as the truck’s suspension system. It absorbs all the bumps and dips in the road, maintains stability, and ensures smooth progress. Just as a top-notch suspension system enhances the driving experience, AI tutoring provides steady support, making the educational journey smoother. But is that enough to replace human touch entirely? Or should we view it as a new tool to augment traditional teaching methods?

Education, much like off-road racing, isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Every learner is unique and responds differently to various teaching techniques. Here’s something to think about: Could blending human tutors and AI tools like ChatGPT be the answer to a more dynamic and responsive education system?

As we delve deeper into this era of AI-led tutoring, I invite you to ponder this: What’s the best way to navigate the educational trail - solely relying on human tutors, utilizing AI tools like ChatGPT, or perhaps, a blend of both?

What does your ideal learning vehicle look like? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Buckle up, and let’s explore this thrilling educational journey together. Gear up, folks, and let’s hit the trail!
